Here’s the 2025 Chevrolet Equinox EV! With the Chevy Bolt currently out of production, this model stands as the most affordable electric vehicle from General Motors available today. I’m excited to take it for a test drive and see how it performs. This particular version is the LT model with front-wheel drive, which is the most budget-friendly option. We’ll dive into the pricing details shortly. Chevrolet has streamlined the trim options, offering just two choices now: the LT and the RS, both of which come in either front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive configurations.
Exterior
The Equinox boasts a sleek design, featuring a distinctive wide and narrow LED strip that is becoming synonymous with Chevy’s electric lineup, including the Blazer EV and Silverado EV. Competing against models like the Hyundai Ioniq 5, Tesla Model Y, Ford Mustang Mach-E, and Volkswagen ID.4, it stands out. Interestingly, despite being wider and longer than its competitors, it offers less interior space than most of them.
With its stylish and contemporary appearance, the Equinox avoids any odd or quirky features that might deter potential buyers. When you open the tailgate, you’ll find a practical 26.4 ft³ of cargo space with the seats up, expanding to 57.2 ft³ when the second row is folded down.
Wheels and tires
This LT model comes equipped with standard 19-inch wheels, fitted with Michelin Primacy all-season tires. It features a strut suspension in the front and a multilink setup in the rear. The front brakes consist of 12.6-inch vented discs, while the rear has 12.4-inch vented discs.
Under The Hood
GM has increased the power for both models in 2025. My front-wheel-drive tester now boasts 220 horsepower and 243 lb-ft of torque, an upgrade from the previous 213 horsepower and 236 lb-ft. The all-wheel-drive versions with the dual motor setup deliver an impressive 300 horsepower and 355 lb-ft of torque. The front-wheel-drive model can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in about 7.5 seconds, while the all-wheel-drive variant is expected to achieve this in around 5.5 seconds.
Battery and Charging
Every model is equipped with an 85 kWh Ultium battery, providing a range of 319 miles for the front-wheel drive version and 309 miles for the all-wheel drive variant. The charging capabilities reach up to 150 kWh, and it also features an 11.5 kWh onboard A/C charger. I think the charging speed should be quicker than this since I was parked alongside a Kia EV6 charging with 50% on the screen. The KIA plugged in at 20% and in only a few minutes has passed my charging level.
Driving
As with most EVs, progress is very serene and even with just one motor, it has some zip to it. The 243 lb-ft of instant torque provides a spirited drive for city cruising as well as on two lane highways away from the smoke. Passing maneuvers are easily made, however, on some occasions I felt the AWD dual motor version would have been more fun since at highway speeds, the FWD model does beg for more power.
If you push it into a turn, it certainly has lively handling and the front driver doesn’t seem to understeer as much as I had expected, probably because the electric motor is lighter than a gas engine.
One pedal driving is where the Equinox EV excels, it has 3 settings and I went for the most aggressive one, which almost makes the brakes redundant. If you plan ahead, you rarely need to use them, which is good for servicing costs.
Interior
Get inside and one thing comes immediately to mind, the Equinox EV LT stands out because it doesn’t feel like a basic model inside, despite the somewhat rough cloth on the seats. Everything else feels solid and well-made, with modern technology that elevates it beyond typical rental car standards.
One of the highlights of the interior is the impressive 17.7-inch center touchscreen, which is standard across all trim levels and is the largest in its class for electric vehicles. Similar to the Blazer EV and Silverado EV, this screen is visually striking and responds swiftly to user inputs. While it doesn’t support Apple CarPlay, it does come equipped with Google’s Built-In software suite, which includes apps like Spotify and Google Maps.
I’m glad there are still physical controls for the HVAC system. However, it’s a bit frustrating that essential vehicle functions, such as power and one-pedal driving settings, are crammed into a cluster of software buttons located beneath the large volume knob. The tiny icons look similar and are often hidden by the steering wheel, making them hard to use.
Interestingly, there’s no dedicated start button; instead, the brake pedal serves that purpose, as you need to press it to shift into gear. This might feel unusual for those new to EVs, but it’s something you get used to quickly.
Rear seat passengers get decent leg and headroom, USB power and an armrest with cupholders, so the beancounters didn’t try to cut cost here either.
Safety
All models come with basic driver-assistance features as standard, including automated emergency braking, automatic high-beam headlamps, and lane-keeping assist.
Pricing
The base model, the LT, is remarkably cheap at $33,600 and that price doesn’t include any possible federal incentives of up to $7,500 for eligible buyers. Add destination and this one goes for $34,995.

Verdict
This vehicle is incredibly comfortable and features large instrument and infotainment displays as standard. With a full charge, it can cover an impressive 319 miles. In summary, it offers a lot of value—especially considering its starting price of $34,995, which includes shipping. Chevy has priced the Equinox EV right on the money. It isn’t quite cheap enough to act as a Bolt replacement but it’s right there with cars like the Mustang Mach-E and Ioniq 5. The FWD car is a little slow for my tastes, I’d probably pony up the additional $3,000 for the AWD trim.
