The Zagato Loses It’s Roof………

and I want one……Aston Martin has just announced the addition of a sister car to the Vanquish Zagato the coupe it debuted earlier this year. The incredible Vanquish Zagato Volante. Initially the Coupe had run of only 99 units but Aston decided to make 99 more in the even prettier Volante form. Not surprisingly almost all have been sold on pre-orders. The big departure is the removal of the Zagato’s trademark double-bubble roof, instead offering a folding fabric hood. Aston Hasn’t hasn’t provided any pictures of it roof-up yet, something and UK buyers might have to use now and them. Having said that I imagine that this is a car designed for sunnier climates and cruising down the boulevards of Monaco.

The Aston Martin Vanquish Zagato Volante is the latest creation from a collaboration that reaches back over nearly six decades, beginning with the beautifully muscular DB4 GT Zagato race car of 1960 and includes the DB7 Vantage Zagato of 2002 and 2011’s V12 Vantage Zagato. The Vanquish Zagato Volante shares its proportions with the Coupe, a quintessential Aston Martin form with a classic Zagato twist, evoked by round tail light reflectors that use the same ‘bladed’ LED technology as the Aston Martin Vulcan supercar. The twin cowls on the rear deck blend into the leading edge of the luggage compartment, concealing a bespoke folding hood derived from the mechanism used in the Vanquish Volante. Carbon fibre sills around the lower body create a pronounced horizontal emphasis that runs from front to rear.

Its V12 engine gets nearly 600 horsepower (592 horsepower to be exact). Aston say it will sprint from zero to 60 mph is 3.7 seconds. Top speed should be a whisker shy of 200 mph, but not with the roof down, wouldn’t want to mess up your expensive new hairdo.

 

Inside each car you’ll find herringbone carbon-fiber and bronze detailing, plus high-grade leather and trademark Zagato “Z” stitching on the seats and doors, headrests and center console. Thanks to Aston Martin’s Q division, you can go crazy with your wildest paint and trim fantasies. Blue with pink spots maybe?

Aston hasn’t announced the pricing yet for the 2+2 roadsters, but that doesn’t really matter. Most have been spoken for anyway.

Deliveries begin next year with an expected price of $500,000………less is always more, right?
