The Bugatti Chiron is a go, the name has been confirmed and it will be launched at the 2016 Geneva Auto Show. it will be “the world’s most powerful, fastest, most luxurious and most exclusive production super sports car.”
Despite the ongoing Diesel scandal VW is forging ahead with this car. There has been much speculation that the hypercar could be killed off by parent company Volkswagen. Well it’s not.
The Chiron will cost a reported $2.4 million at launch for a base-spec model, which is almost $1 million more than the current Veyron. Once the roadster and special editions are offered this number will only increase. Apparently more than 100 prospective clients have already placed deposits.
The Numbers
The Chiron sticks with the trusty 16 cylinder arranged in that familiar W formation, with power set to be around 1500 metric horsepower and an aim to top the production car record for acceleration and top speed. It retains the carbon fiber body structure, the independent suspension and 4WD system all driven through a reinforced, faster-shifting seven-speed dual-clutch transmission..
Engine Quad-turbo 8.0-litre W16
Power 1,480 hp
Torque target 1,106 lb-ft
Projected top speed 288 mph
0-62 mph time 2.3 sec
Prospects for the new Bugatti supercar have already been shown the Chiron at the company’s fancy Molsheim headquarters in eastern France. Molsheim is the home of the Bugatti family, the birthplace of the brand and the modern headquarters of the company. Located in France – in the heart of Alsace – Molsheim is where Bugatti’s long history of success began in 1909 when it started making cars that caused an absolute sensation. The new Chiron aims to continue that tradition.
