When we tested the 2014 MINI Cooper S back in April 2014, were left a little underwhelmed, it had lost some of the original version’s soul. Enter the 2015 MINI John Cooper Works to add some spice back. It has the most powerful engine ever fitted in a serial production model of the British premium brand sporting a 2.0-litre 4-cylinder, with output increased to 231 hp and better fuel economy.

Choose between a 6-speed manual transmission as standard, or a 6-speed Steptronic sports transmission as an option. Acceleration from zero to in 6.3 seconds (0.2 seconds quicker) with manual transmission or 6.1 seconds (0.6 seconds quicker) with the automatic.

The JCW comes with a newly developed Brembo brake system and some nifty 17-inch John Cooper Works Race Spoke light alloy wheels. To keep you firmly planted on the pavement the MINI has a whole host of driver and stability aids including Electromechanical power steering with Servotronic, Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) including Dynamic Traction Control (DTC), Electronic Differential Lock Control (EDLC) and Performance Control. Dynamic Damper Control is available as an option.

Inside you get cool Recaro style seats, clad in Carbon Black Dinamica microfiber material which are available in a similar configuration with black leather. A whole host of optional goodies like Park Distance Control, assuming you can’t park one of the smallest cars on the road. Driving Assistant including camera-based active cruise control, collision and pedestrian warning with initial brake function. Harman Kardon hi-fi speaker system is an option and of course bonnet stripes.

We have no pricing information yet but the car is expected to hit dealerships in Spring 2015
