Once upon a time, carmakers built machines with soul, with noise, with drama, and with absolutely no concern for efficiency charts. This⦠is the 2026 Lexus LC 500.Ā A naturally aspirated V8 grand tourer, sculpted like a concept car that accidentally escaped into the real world⦠and tragically, this is its final year.Ā
In an age of silent speed and digital numbness, this car refuses to whisper.Ā So today,Ā weāreĀ not reviewing a car,Ā weāreĀ saying goodbyeā¦to one of the most beautiful, most emotional, and most stubborn V8s ever built.āĀ
Lexus hasĀ alwaysĀ stuck a defiant middle finger to the forces of efficiency: this is the final year of the LC as we know it, andĀ itāsĀ still powered by a naturally aspiratedĀ 5.0-liter V8Ā that revs like an offended banshee crying out for more redlines.Ā Ā 2026Ā isnātĀ just another model update;Ā itāsĀ theĀ swan songĀ of one of the most beautiful grand tourers of the 21st century. Reports suggest that production will wrap with this model year, marking the end of the LC line ā and with it, Lexusās flagship naturally aspirated V8 in many markets.Ā Ā
Letās be honest: most modern cars look like they were styled by committees with infinitely small budgets. Not the LC 500. Its aerodynamic silhouette, ultra-compact LED headlamps, and taillights inspired by jet afterburners are downrightĀ sculptural. YouĀ donātĀ park this thing ā youĀ presentĀ it.Ā Ā
Some Interesting Bits You ProbablyĀ DidnātĀ Know
This carās front suspension was custom-built from scratch to accommodate theĀ low hoodĀ and optionalĀ 21-inch wheels.Ā
It uses a sophisticated double-joint multi-link front suspension withĀ two upper and two lower control arms.
TheĀ active exhaust was a point of internal debate: higher-ups wanted Mustang-style hooliganism, engineers didnāt, but the result is a spectacular soundtrack, not quite an LFA but very good.Ā
Its battery sits in theĀ trunkĀ ā a nerdy little move to dial in perfect front-rear balance.Ā Ā
Magnesium shift paddles and a steering wheel rim with varying thickness prove Lexus is obsessed with tiny tactile joys that most rivals ignore. Ā
It has a HOLDĀ button,Ā so youĀ donātĀ have to keep your foot on the brake at a stop.Ā Ā
The roof canĀ operateĀ at speedsĀ up toĀ 31 mph and takesĀ 15 seconds to raise or lower.Ā Ā

Under The Hood
Under that long hood is theĀ naturally aspirated 5.0-liter V8, makingĀ 471 hpĀ @7,100 rpmĀ and 398Ā lb-ft,Ā @ 4,800Ā delivered through aĀ 10-speed automaticĀ ā and yes, it still has that intoxicating growl youĀ donātĀ get from turbos or batteries.Ā This engineĀ isnātĀ about hypercarĀ dragĀ times ā this isĀ symphonicĀ thrust. 0-60 mph lands in theĀ mid-4-secondĀ range with a measured weight and balance that honors grand touring rather than track domination.Ā Ā
It does have explosive bolts fitted, a system designed as a pedestrian safety feature. Due to the car’s low hood line, there is not enough space between the hood and the engine block to provide a sufficient crumple zone to meet safety regulations for pedestrian impacts.Ā Ā
Wheels and Tires
It sits on glorious 21-inch wheels wearing Michelin Pilot Sport 5s tires, 245/40 front and 275/35 rear. The LC 500 comes standard with high-performance brake systems that featureĀ two-piece (or floating) rotors, paired with six-piston calipers.Ā They areĀ 15.7Ā inches at the front and 14.1 inchesĀ at the back.Ā
Driving
Starting the LC 500 Convertible every morning is an event. A proper one. You press the button, and the V8 barks into life like itās offended that you dared to wake it. Then it settles into a slightly lumpy idle, which is almost certainly engineered, but weāll forgive it because it sounds magnificent. You get a carousel of driving modes: Eco, Comfort, Normal, Custom, Sport, and Sport+, all adjusted via the right-hand dial on the instrument cluster, because Lexus likes to do things differently. Obviously.
Right. So. The convertible weighs a bit more, because of course it does. Thereās a roof thatās gone missing and an alarming amount of engineering thatās been added to compensate for this act of structural vandalism. Does it ruin the drive? No. But when you start pressing on through tighter bends, you can feel the extra pudding being carried around. My test car was riding on Michelin Pilot Sport 5 S tires rather than the usual Bridgestones Lexus likes to bolt on, which means it grips well but also politely reminds you that this is still a grand tourer, not a Nürburgring lap record attempt.
Now, Sport+ is where things get interesting. Once youāre clear of town and bury your right foot into the carpet, the car seems to lean over and say, āAh. Weāre doing this now.ā Roof down is absolutely mandatory because thatās when the V8ās voice fills the cabin and your soul. Use the paddles, and it gets even better. You can hold the engine right in its sweet spot, wringing it all the way to the red line, though youāll find the rev limiter surprisingly quickly if you get carried away. And you will get carried away.
Dial it back into Normal or Comfort, and suddenly it turns into one of the finest boulevard cruisers on the planet. Effortless, calm, soothing. Push it harder, and while the LC 500 may not be the sharpest scalpel in the drawer, it makes up for it with superb damping and impressive body control. Yes, thereās a bit of roll, but itās a graceful sort of roll. The kind that reminds you this is a luxury V8 convertible, not a track weapon. And frankly, thatās exactly how it should be.
Interior
Step inside and itās immediately, unmistakably Lexus. Which means the cabin looks like it was designed by very serious people wearing very expensive glasses. The dashboard is a dramatic, three-dimensional sculpture made of excellent materials, all layered and angled like some sort of origami spaceship. You sit very low, especially if your car has the sporty Alcantara seats from the Bespoke package, which makes you feel less like youāre getting into a car and more like youāre strapping yourself into a very polite fighter jet.
Thereās a new touchscreen, which is good, but it still lives just slightly too far away, as if itās shy. To compensate, Lexus has given you buttons. Lots of them. Especially for the climate control. Real buttons. Physical ones. Pressy, clicky buttons. And everything you touch feels beautifully engineered, like it will still work perfectly long after the apocalypse.
The mix of layers, textures, and sharp angles makes the cabin feel lively and dramatic, even if you choose a sensible, muted color. Itās never dull in here. Ever.
As for the rear seats, donāt. Just donāt. They exist purely to satisfy insurance companies and people whoāve never actually seen the car in real life. If you do attempt to use them, the front seat will slide back and immediately crush your legs, reminding you that this is a grand tourer, not a family hatchback. And honestly, thatās fine.
Pricing
BaseĀ price for the convertible isĀ $107,750.Ā This one has theĀ InspirationĀ Series package for $10,950,Ā which includes this unique Wind color, Chrome exterior trim, the 21-inch wheels, White interior accents, upper body heating, Mark Levinson Premium Sound, Head up display, and heated steering wheel. All convertibles get a Limited-slip diff, Yamaha performance damper, and on thisĀ Inspiration Series, scuff plates.Ā The final price of this one is $120,379.
Cargo Area
The roof does take up some space, so you only get 3.4 cubic feet, so if you play golf, you may have to stand your bag of sticks in the passenger footwell.Ā
