2026 Hummer EV Carbon Fiber

2026 Hummer EV 3X Pickup Review 1,160 HP, 5 Tons & Utterly Bonkers

There was a time when the Hummer was the automotive equivalent of turning up to afternoon tea with a flamethrower. It was enormous. It was ridiculous. It drank fuel like an English football fan drinks beer. Environmentalists would see one and immediately begin hugging the nearest tree out of sheer panic. Then General Motors did something extraordinary. They made it… electric. Which, at first glance, sounds about as sensible as replacing the engines on an aircraft carrier with a thousand AA batteries. But then you see it. And suddenly, it all makes perfect sense.

The 2026 Hummer EV pickup isn’t some dainty, eco-friendly electric pickup that’s here to save the polar bears. No. This is an electric Hummer, which means subtlety has once again been thrown out of the window and run over by nearly 10,000 pounds of American excess.  This thing has three windscreen wipers. Three! Not because General Motors thought it looked cool—but because the windscreen is approximately the size of a tennis court.

Power

Before we go any further, we need to address the absurdity parked in front of us. This isn’t a pickup truck. It’s a rolling geological event. Underneath lurk three electric motors producing a scarcely believable 1,160 horsepower and more than 1,200 lb-ft of torque. Those numbers are so outrageous they sound less like vehicle specifications and more like something NASA would scribble on a whiteboard before launching a rocket.

What’s New for 2026?

A new Carbon Fiber Edition joins the Hummer EV pickup’s two other trims and is based on the top-tier EV 3x model. Its name stems from its use of carbon bits, including black 22-inch carbon fiber wheels wearing these 305/55-Goodyear Wrangler Territory A/Ts, and carbon inserts in the mirror caps and on the skid plate. GMC says this Carbon Fiber Edition Pickup offers 0-60 mph launches in just 2.8 seconds when using the WTF mode.

Air Suspension

It has an air-suspended chassis which can lift the vehicle to 16 inches high and down to as low as eight. And then there’s rear-wheel steering and crab walk. You also get locking front and rear differentials to ensure good grip, though if things go awry.

Range and Charging

Now, because this is an electric vehicle, everyone immediately asks the same dreary question. “What’s the range?” Well, this one has an updated 24-module battery pack,
which features dual 400V packs wired in parallel, giving you roughly 205 kWh of usable capacity. It’ll travel around 381 miles before needing a recharge. Which sounds quite impressive until you remember it weighs almost five tons That’s roughly the same as 4 Mazda MX-5s stacked on top of each other. It has a peak DC fast-charging speed of up to 350 kW, allowing it to regain roughly 100 miles of range in 10 to 12 minutes.

Towing

“Practicality? Yes, the Hummer has discovered it… in the most American way possible. If you’ve bought the three-motor version, it’ll tow up to 10,000 pounds, which is roughly the weight of a small bungalow. Around the back there’s a five-foot cargo bed, perfectly sized for dirt bikes, camping gear, or the sort of DIY project you’ll never actually finish. Up front, because there’s no V8 occupying the engine bay, you get an 11.3-cubic-foot frunk. It’s enormous—big enough for luggage, tools, or several weeks’ worth of groceries. Which is handy, because after buying a Hummer EV, you may as well live in it.”

Driving

Plant your right foot into the carpet and the Hummer doesn’t so much accelerate as it attempts to rotate the Earth backwards. Mountains become speed bumps, traffic simply evaporates in the mirrors, and your internal organs briefly file for separation. It’s the sort of power that makes absolutely no sense whatsoever… which, of course, is precisely why it’s magnificent.

Its ride isn’t sophisticated, and its handling is far from sporty, but you don’t expect it to be, and it’s entertaining in an oversized Power Wheels or mini-monster truck sort of way. Its electric power steering settles in nicely at highway speeds. Tap a steering wheel button and, on most highways in the U.S. and Canada, the Hummer’s Super Cruise system engages for long stints of eyes-on and hands-off driving. The upright shape results in lots of wind noise and tire rumble, and big wind gusts at highway speeds can start to nudge the high-riding Hummer into an adjacent lane, too.

Take the Hummer EV off the road, and it behaves with all the subtlety of a charging rhinoceros. The four-wheel-drive system simply refuses to be flustered, clawing its way across dry sand, loose rock, and rutted trails with almost insulting ease. Wheelspin? Hardly any. It just grips, grunts, and carries on as though the laws of physics have been politely asked to wait outside. And with up to 16 inches of ground clearance, rocks that would have most SUVs wincing simply disappear beneath it. They don’t feel like obstacles—they feel like someone left a few pebbles in the driveway.

Interior

Step inside, and it’s less “luxury lounge” and more “base camp for people who think showers are optional.” Everything feels chunky, tough, and designed to survive mud, sand, wet dogs, and the sort of abuse normally reserved for military equipment.  Which is just as well, because you can pull off all four roof panels, stash them neatly in the front trunk, and suddenly you’re driving something that feels like a cross between a pickup truck and a convertible bunker. It’s gloriously unnecessary—and therefore absolutely brilliant.

Inside, you’re greeted by a 13.4-inch infotainment screen, because apparently every new car now needs a television mounted in the dashboard. Thankfully, GMC hasn’t just built a giant iPad and called it innovation. The screen is genuinely useful, with a customizable split view that lets you keep an eye on all the important Hummer things—battery, off-road cameras, navigation, and the sort of statistics you’ll obsess over for the first fortnight before never looking at them again.

Then there’s Google Built-In, which means the Hummer is almost as connected as your teenager. While you’re waiting for the batteries to gorge themselves on electricity, you can bark destinations at the voice assistant, let it work out charging stops for you, browse the web on Chrome, play games, or even watch Prime Video. Which means charging no longer feels like waiting for the kettle to boil. It feels like you’ve accidentally wandered into your living room… only this one weighs five tons and can climb over a small mountain.

Price

The base price on this tri-motor Hummer is $104,700. My tester had several options, including the Carbon Fiber Package for $13,700, which includes:
MAGNUS GRAY MATTE EXTERIOR PAINT
VELOCITY EMBER INTERIOR
CARBON FIBER BLACK 22″ WHEELS
CARBON FIBER SKID PLATE INSERT
BLACK-PAINTED APPROACH SHIELD
AND BLACK EMBLEMS

The 24-module battery pack is $9,995, which takes the total price to $131,770

Verdict

If you’re looking for something sensible, economical, environmentally saintly, or easy to park…Absolutely not. Buying a Hummer EV because it’s electric is rather like buying a Great Dane because you want a lapdog. You’ve completely misunderstood the assignment. This thing weighs nearly five tons. It has the aerodynamic efficiency of Buckingham Palace, consumes electricity with the enthusiasm of a teenager raiding the family refrigerator, and occupies so much road that cyclists instinctively start writing complaint letters the moment they see it.

And I absolutely adore it.
