2025 Chevrolet Blazer EV SS Review seriously quick and smooth

This is the new 2025 Chevrolet Blazer EV SS, and it’s the first all-electric Chevy that actually wants to rip your face off. And, because this is America, they’ve decided to call it SS, which historically meant ‘Super Sport’. But today… Well, it means a heavy crossover that goes from zero to sixty faster than a Porsche 911.

Visually, it’s not the sort of SUV you buy if you want to blend in at the school car park. Look at it—it’s got bulges, creases, vents that don’t vent anything, and a light bar that stretches across the front like an intergalactic star destroyer. This isn’t subtle…especially with the radiant red paint my tester has.

Wheels and Tires

As part of the Performance Package, you get Continental Premium Contact 6 summer tires on the 22-inch rims, which are 275/40 all-around. Brakes are 15.3-inch units clamped by Brembo six-piston calipers at the front and 13.6-inch rear rotors with sliding calipers at the rear. Chevy has also upgraded it with 60 percent stiffer anti-roll bars and 30 percent stiffer springs.

Competition

So how does it stack up against the competition? Well, the Tesla Model Y looks like a jellybean, and the Mustang Mach-E looks like a Ford with an identity crisis. This, though, I think, is the best-looking of the lot. And it has more power.

Under the hood

There isn’t an engine, no pistons, no exhausts, no rumble, no drama. Instead, you get a larger 102-kilowatt battery good for 303 miles of range. It can charge at up to 190 kWh. The Blazer SS takes the simple road for maximum power: It takes the front-drive Blazer’s 220-hp permanent-magnet electric motor, while out back it uses the rear-drive Blazer’s bigger 365-hp electric motor.

Using a slightly broken calculator combined power is 515 hp and 450 lb-ft of torque, but wait, activate the Blazer SS’s Wide Open Watts (WOW) mode, which stays on until you get out of the vehicle, and you get the full 615 hp and 650 lb-ft.

How quick is it?

We tested it using GM’s built-in performance data logger, and we achieved two perfect launches to 60 mph in an astonishing 3.2 seconds.

Driving

The powertrain is definitely one of the standout features of the Blazer EV; it delivers power smoothly and reliably through its dual-motor system, making it super easy to maneuver at low speeds and perfect for city driving. You’ll feel the torque kick in right away when you hit the go pedal, which makes it a solid choice for urban driving. WOW mode acceleration is like being punched in the spine by a grizzly bear that’s had too much coffee! Launches are savage and immediate!

In Z-Mode, handling is impressive, as are the brakes, and the steering is light and quick, but lacking in feel. I decided the best setting for the car is steering normal, brakes sport, and noise off since it becomes tiresome after a while.

With those stiffened the springs, anti-roll bars, and upgraded the dampers. The result? A 5,337 lb hunk of metal that doesn’t flop around like a drunk hippo in corners. It stays surprisingly flat and composed thanks to those suspension tweaks.

However, in “Competitive” mode, you can still get a little tail wiggle—just enough to feel playful, not out of control. I have a feeling Chevy didn’t design this to make your heart race, but rather to keep you safe while giving you a little thrill.

Interior

Inside, the SS version of the Blazer EV is pretty much identical to the high-end RS. The screens take center stage, featuring a huge 17.7-inch touch display as the highlight of the interior. The downside? No Apple CarPlay or Android Auto, since GM is convinced it can handle software better.

The Blazer’s Google Built-In system makes you log in to each app individually that you’d normally access through phone mirroring. There are handy shortcuts, like a pinned icon for one-pedal driving and key climate controls (heated/cooled seats). But switching drive modes is a bit of a hassle, requiring multiple steps. The WOW mode, which really deserves a dedicated button in the cabin, needs several clicks to activate; the good news is it stays on until you leave the car.

The front seats are heated and ventilated, but since they come from lower models, they lack the support needed for more spirited driving. Even with its sporty vibe, the Blazer EV SS is still an SUV at its core. It offers plenty of legroom in both the front and back, plus some nice second-row features like rear seat heaters, USB-C charging ports, and air vents.

Cargo Space

At the back, the Comfort package includes a powered liftgate. Folding the rear seats expands the 26 cubic-foot cargo area to a larger 60-cubic-foot space, which is slightly less than the gas-powered Blazer; however, the flat floor makes it easy to load bulky items.

Pricing

This one has a base price of $60,600 and has a couple of options. This very red paint is $495, and the Performance package, which gives you the summer tires, higher friction brake pads, and rotors. That is $395. Add it up, and the total price is $64,875.

Verdict

So, there it is. The 2025 Chevrolet Blazer EV SS. It’s fast, it’s loud—well, visually loud—it’s practical, it’s family-friendly, and it goes around corners like a frightened cat. In short, it’s a family crossover that thinks it’s a muscle car, and for that, I rather like it.
